Six incredible cities, twelve emotive families and food cooked with passion is the recipe for this new season of Tastes Like Home with Irish TV chef, food writer, author Catherine Fulvio. Enjoy a serving of delicious recipes steeped in tradition and a flavour of incredible culture and sights from locations right across the world.
Catherine Fulvio travels to Paris and immerses herself in the Parisian culture by visiting local landmarks, learns how to make the traditional pastry, Croissants and goes on a Food Tour to test and taste some of the best French cuisine. Our contributors are Mother and Daughter, Rosemary and Una. Una has been living in Paris since 1992. She lives there with her French husband Jean-Christophe and their two children Alanna and Dara.
Catherine Fulvio travels to Boston and visits the iconic Cheers Pub, she experiences Oyster Happy Hour, visits Harvard University where our contestant works, meets up with Irish staff members of The Lenox Hotel who tell her all about life in Boston and she gets a private tour of Fenway Park, baseball stadium. Along the way, she tastes some of Boston’s finest cuisine as she visits local restaurants and a market that houses some of Boston’s finest chef’s under the one roof, Time Out Market. And a trip to Boston isn’t complete without visiting Mike’s Pastry who created the one-of-a-kind cannoli that keeps loyal Bostonians and tourists coming from around the world to enjoy.
Catherine Fulvio travels to Faro, Portugal and gets a tour from a local guide of the historic town by visiting local landmarks and old buildings, she immerses herself in the Portuguese way of life by visiting a local Market that sell local foods + items, she pays a visit to some local restaurants to taste popular Portuguese dishes and to really make her feel welcomed to Faro, she attends a Portuguese Table where she gets invited into the home of a local family who prepare traditional Portuguese dishes for her.
Catherine Fulvio travels to Newfoundland and goes on a Whale Tour in search of Whales, she visits The Rooms Museum which houses a piece on the Irish in Newfoundland, she meets baker Kevin Massey from Dublin who has set up a home in St. Johns, he also acts as her Food Tour Guide at the local Market she Catherine tastes local foods like Cod Tongues, Catherine gets some lessons in Axe Throwing and visits Mallard Cottage which was built in the late 18th century located in Quidi Vidi fishing village and tastes their catch of the day!
Catherine Fulvio travels to Osijek, Croatia and starts her journey by getting a guided tour of the Old Town of Osijek, Tvrđa and finds out about the history behind the Old City Walls. She visits a Regional Wine Cellar in the Old Town and tastes wine from the region made by wine producers from Osijek. She visits a replica of a water mill in the Drava River where she can see and experience a little bit of Osijek history. Her trip wouldn’t be complete without tasting some of the regions finest cuisine including krempita (cream pies), Kulen ( sausage) and river fish-paprikash.
Catherine Fulvio starts her journey off in Portland, Maine where she goes on a Food Tour through Portland’s Old Port District, a hot spot for restaurants many of which promote local produce, Catherine visit’s the only farm in Maine still harvesting blueberries, before stopping off in the Hamptons, helps with the harvest in the local 10 acre Pumpkin Patch, also visits a Meadery to learn all about making Mead and visits America’s Stonehenge.
