32-year-old Romagnoli currently plays for Serie A side Empoli. So far this season, the Italian has made 19 appearances in the top flight of Italian football (17 starts, two substitute appearances), scoring two goals for the Azzurri.
After winning four promotions to Serie A with Pescara, Carpi, Brescia, and Empoli, this season, the captain of the club had a different task this year – helping his side retain their Italian top-flight status. In doing so, he also fulfilled an ambition – scoring his first goal in the competition.
