Match Preview: Bologna vs Salernitana

On 1 September 2022, catch the live broadcast of Bologna vs Salernitana from the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara on TLN TV at 2:30P!

Match Insights: Bologna

Bologna remained unbeaten in last two Serie A TIM games against Salernitana (3-2 at home, 1-1 away) after losing two of their three previous top-flight matches. Bologna have lost all of their last three Serie A TIM matches played on Thursday; however, the Rossoblù have remained unbeaten in all 15 games played on this day of the week in their history in the tournament (9W, 6D). Bologna have collected only one point in the first three rounds of this championship; in the previous seven seasons, only in 2018/19 have they not achieved any success after the first four Serie A TIM matches (one draw and three defeats in that case).

Player to Watch: Marko Arnautovic

Marko Arnautovic found the goal in both matches of the last Serie A TIM season against Salernitana: the Campania team could become the first against which the Bologna forward finds the goal in three different matches (currently two also against Sampdoria and Spezia).

Match Insights: Salernitana

Salernitana has never snatched all three points in a Serie A TIM away match against Bologna (1D, 2L) and more generally the Granata have not won any of the seven away games in the top league against opponents from Emilia Romagna (2D, 5L). Salernitana is experiencing their best away unbeaten streak in her history in Serie A TIM (five) – plus the Granata could keep a clean sheet in two consecutive away games in the tournament for the first time since April 1999. Salernitana has kept a clean sheet in the last two league games, as many clean sheets as in the entire Serie A TIM last season. The Granata have earned four points in three matches of this tournament; in 2021/22, to get the same points, they waited seven rounds.

Player to Watch: Antonio Candreva

Antonio Candreva has scored three goals against Bologna in Serie A TIM, with three different jerseys – among these, there is also his first ever center in the competition, scored with Juventus on 21 February 2010 (the other two with Lazio and Inter).

Juventus Serie A Spezia

Match Preview: Juventus vs Spezia

On 31 August 2022, catch the live broadcast of Juventus vs Spezia from the Allianz Stadium on TLN TV at 2:30P!

Match Insights: Juventus

Juventus have won all four previous Serie A TIM matches against Spezia. Juventus lost the last Serie A TIM match played on Wednesday, against Sassuolo on 27 October 2021 – the bianconeri have not recorded two consecutive defeats in the tournament on this day of the week since 2005, when Fabio Capello sat on the bench. Juventus have drawn their last two home games – the bianconeri have not drawn three matches in a row in Serie A TIM since October 2020, when Andrea Pirlo was on the bench. Juventus have won only two of their last six home games in Serie A TIM – since the beginning of April, among the teams that have played at least six home games in Serie A TIM in the period, only Atalanta (zero) and Hellas Verona (one) have done worse than the bianconeri.

Player to Watch: Dusan Vlahovic

Among the teams he has faced more than three times in Serie A TIM, Spezia is the one against which Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic has the best minutes/goal ratio (one goal on average every 84 minutes) – four total goals against the Ligurians, including his last hat-trick in the tournament, in October 2021 with the Fiorentina shirt.

Match Insights: Spezia

Spezia could become the fifth opponent against which Juventus manages to win all the first five matches in their history in Serie A TIM after Chievo, Pescara, Sampierdarenese and Siena. For the third consecutive season, Juventus and Spezia will face each other in Serie A TIM during the first six days, after 2020/21 (in the sixth) and 2021/22 (in the fifth) – in both of these first-round matches, both teams found the net. Spezia have earned four points in the first three games of this championship, a record after the first three seasonal matches in Serie A TIM (1W, 2P in 2020/21 and 1N, 2P in 2021/22) – after four games the Ligurians have conquered four points in both 2020/21 and 2021/22. Spezia did not score in their last away league match; the Ligurian team has not remained two away games in a row without goals since December 2021.

Player to Watch: Simone Bastoni

Simone Bastoni (five goals in Serie A TIM) has taken part in two of the three goals scored by Spezia in this league (assist for Nzola against Empoli and goal against Sassuolo) – he is one of only three defenders with at least five goals and 10 assists in the competition from 2020/21 onwards, together with Theo Hernández and Davide Faraoni.

Match Insights: Monza

Monza has only achieved success against Roma in the previous match between the two teams (2-1 at the home of the red and white in the Italian Cup in 1988). Monza recorded three defeats in their first three Serie A TIM games – the last team to lose all of their first four games in the top flight was Benevento in 2016/17.

Player to Watch: Gianluca Caprari

Gianluca Caprari played four games with the Roma shirt in Serie A TIM. The Monza forward has scored four goals against his former team; only against Fiorentina has he done better in the top flight (five).

Martin Erlic Discusses History With Sassuolo & Former Club Spezia

Sassuolo defender Martin Erlic sat down with Serie A ahead of Matchday 3 to speak about his debut with Sassuolo, his former club Spezia, and the current Neroverdi team.

History With Sassuolo

“I had two wonderful seasons with Sassuolo. I loved my time with the Primavera team. We did well too. Sassuolo was my destiny and my aim was always to come back here. This is a club where you can do well.”

Time at Spezia

“It was an amazing experience that I’ll never forget. The fans were so welcoming. My last match against Napoli was very emotional: I saw tears in the eyes of the fans. There will always be a place for them in my heart.”

Current Neroverdi Team & Fitting In

“We’re a young side with a smattering of experience, a great group that’s keen to improve. I knew all the lads from before so it wasn’t hard to slot in.”

Mattia Perin Discusses Mental Health & New Juventus Signings Di Maria & Pogba

Juventus goalkeeper Mattia Perin sat down with Serie A ahead of Matchday 3 to speak about the new campaign, new signings Paul Pogba and Angel Di Maria, and mental and emotional health.

New Season, New Interpretations

“We now play very few long balls and always try to build from the back, bringing the ball forward from our half into opposition territory. The coach felt it was an area for improvement.”

Angel Di Maria & Paul Pogba

“They’re both top-class players. They’re also top-class people. Paul feels at home here, so he’s been settled in since day one. Surprisingly, that goes for Angel too. He always gets involved in the dressing room, both when we need to be serious and when it’s time for jokes. He always uses his experience and personality for the cause.”

Mental & Emotional Health

“There’ve been some tough moments after the last injury. I even thought about stopping, but I then started working on myself and thanks to my mental coach, Nicoletta Romanazzi,  I’ve realized how important it is to work on yourself. We come to training every day to work on our strength, tactics and technique, but we might neglect the most important thing, which is our mental and emotional health.”
